About the Mosquito

The mosquito is an insect in the culicidae family. It has a pair of scaled wings, long legs and a slender body. The fact that mosquitoes suck blood from other animals makes them the perfect transmitter for diseases. Only a female mosquito drinks blood, the males prefer nectar. The image below shows a picture of an anopheles mosquito, the mosquito which causes malaria, and labels the parts of the mosquito.

Mosquito Life cycle:
The mosquito life cycle comes in 4 parts: eggs, larva, pupa and adult. After each time a mosquito feeds, the mosquito lays 200-300 eggs into a source of stagnant water. The eggs float on water in clusters and in around 24-48 hours, they hatch into larva. Around 7-10 days after the eggs hatch, the larva become pupa, and the pupa, adult mosquitos. Adult mosquitos can live up to 1-2 months and a few days after they get out of the water, they take their first meal.
